SYNOPSIS
Meet Aurora, a little girl who lives in a colorful house with a monster under her bed. Her parents don't believe her, but they soon find out the hard way that the monster is real.But Aurora notices that her neighbor in apartment 5B seems to have a knack for dealing with monsters. She observes how he takes them down with ease, almost like a scene from Bruce Lee's Game of Death.
Aurora hires this neighbor to take out the monster under her bed. He's not convinced that the creature exists, but he suspects that the real killer might have mistaken his apartment for Aurora's. So, he agrees to 'hunt' the monster.

This movie is a tough one to categorize. It's like a cocktail of Leon, Kill Bill, and Alice in Wonderland - a dark, yet vibrant fairy tale. The visual style takes center stage, with stylish costumes, charismatic characters, and vibrant set designs.
From the colorful apartments to the gory weapons, this movie is a feast for the eyes. We've got a revolver with an absurdly long barrel, a cane-nunchaku, a transparent pistol, and even dragon-shaped shotguns...
While the movie is visually stunning, it's not exactly a thriller or a horror. But it does have a few tense moments that'll keep you on the edge of your seat.
One thing that really stood out to me about Fuller's film is how he masterfully balances two different versions of reality:
The monster is just a vivid imagination of a girl trying to escape the harsh realities of her life – or maybe the whole world around her is just a fantasy too.The monster is real, and poor you if you don't believe it.Even in the final scenes, you can interpret the events in either of the two ways – and that's partly thanks to the presence of Dastmalchian, who's a nod to 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil'.
I was reminded of Dastmalchian when I thought about the cast. The film has very few dialogue scenes, especially in the first hour – maybe just a handful of lines. And then there's Mikkelsen and Dastmalchian – they're perfect actors for conveying silence. Their faces, their features... they don't need to say a word, it's all clear.
Alongside them, Sigourney Weaver is great in her role, and Sheila Atim fits in perfectly. Against these giants, Sophie Turner – who plays Aurora – gets a bit lost. But I have to give credit to the young actress: she doesn't back down, doesn't shy away from the big names. Her character takes the situation for granted, looks for a solution, and finds one – not every adult could do that, and Sophie does it well.
This is Fuller's first feature-length film, a kind of manifesto of what he's capable of. And he's capable of a lot, but... It's not entirely his style yet. He's retained the aesthetic from 'Hannibal', but mixed it with Burton, Tarantino, and Besson's styles. Unfortunately, it doesn't always look like an homage – sometimes it just looks like borrowing.
VERDICT
Let's cut to the chase – every movie's not for everyone. This one's no horror or thriller, but a fairy tale in the vein of the Brothers Grimm, perfect for the holiday season. Watching it was a pleasure, never a chore – thanks to the amazing acting and vibrant visuals.
I'll give it to them, though – the pacing's slow. Like, really slow. Long pauses, static shots, and minimal action make you want to sit back and meditate, grab a cozy sweater with reindeer on it. But the aftertaste's pleasant.
