Kiko Coloured Balm

I've tried a bunch of lip balms, but this Kiko Coloured Balm is seriously the best for dry, chapped lips. It's like a drink of water for your mouth - long-lasting hydration and a touch of colour that lasts all day. The formula is rich and nourishing, perfect for keeping your lips soft and smooth throughout the day. I've used it for a week now and I'm hooked.

Kiko's 02 Vanilla Falls Flat on Every Count

summarizeEditor's Summary

I picked up Kiko's 02 Vanilla lip balm thinking it'd be the perfect solution for my dry, cracked lips during the summer heat. Unfortunately, this balm's performance was a total letdown. The texture felt nice, but the scent and the peachy color weren't exactly what I was looking for. The packaging, however, is top-notch – the sturdy plastic case looks almost like metal due to its slightly mirrored finish. Despite its nice appearance, this balm just didn't deliver on its promises. It's not that it's a bad product, it's just not what I needed. I'm still looking for a lip balm that provides long-lasting hydration and doesn't accentuate lip imperfections.

Kiko's 02 Vanilla Falls Flat on Every Count
I'm still trying to figure out what happened with Kiko's 02 Vanilla lip balm.
I picked it up during the summer heat, thinking it would provide some much-needed hydration for my dry, cracked lips.
The consultant at the store assured me that this shade would be perfect, and while I loved the texture, the scent, and the packaging, the actual performance was a total letdown.
The balm came in a sturdy, high-quality plastic case that looks almost like metal due to its slightly mirrored finish.
The balm isn't transparent or white; it's a peachy color that I wasn't exactly thrilled about.
Under certain lighting, I could mistake it for a concealer, which was my first concern.
The scent wasn't my thing at first, but it's actually pretty nice - light and slightly vanilla-like, at least for the first few weeks.
After that, it starts to smell like petroleum jelly or something a bit off.
The texture is super soft and the balm melts into my skin/lips when I touch it.
That didn't exactly work in its favor, though, because in the summer it melts right out of the packaging and gets everywhere.
Taste-wise, it's neutral with a hint of sweetness.
I applied it for the first time right after buying it at the mall, without a mirror, and I was excited to see how it would work.
I really liked how it felt - it glided on smoothly, enveloped my lips, and provided instant hydration.
Not sticky at all.
The problem showed up later when I looked in the mirror, and it was a major disappointment.
Let me be clear: my lips are super dry, with cracks and sometimes even scabs.
So, the balm just sank into all the folds, accentuated all the cracks, and on top of that, it applied in weird patches.
Ugh, it gets worse! Not only does it apply unevenly, highlighting all its flaws, but the tint of the balm is way too light and it completely bleaches my lips.
The next issue: it disappears from my lips in like two minutes.
I guess I should be thankful that this 'beauty' doesn't last long, but still.
I decided not to get discouraged and tried experimenting with it.
I tried combining it with lip liners, but that only made things worse:
The shade does look a bit better, but the balm still applies unevenly.
The only thing that makes it decent on my lips is applying it with my finger:
Honestly, this isn't my style, especially considering how quickly the balm disappears.
I'm not going to be digging it out of my bag every five minutes and applying it with my fingers.
So, I left it at home and only applied it before bed, but even as a moisturizer, it's a total fail.
It only moisturizes while it's on your lips, and it's not on your lips for long enough.
I used it until the end, and there were only a few more applications left, but I'm not going to go digging for it.
I don't see the point, and I don't want to.
I'm not vouching for the other shades or how they behave on your lips, but the 02 shade is a definite no-go.
I forgot to mention that the balm also has a tendency to stain your lips if you apply it multiple times in a row after it's dried.
Your lips end up with a slightly pinkish tint, which is just confusing.
Why would you want that? I know some people like the idea of subtly colored lips, but this 'bonus' isn't for them.
It's for people who don't like the pale look of their lips and don't want to layer on the balm to get some color.
Not recommended, not even remotely.
Two stars only for the packaging and the lack of stickiness.

live_helpFeatured FAQ

Does this lip balm provide long-lasting hydration?

Unfortunately, no. I found that it disappears from my lips within a few hours, which made it hard to rely on for everyday use.

What's the color like?

The color is a peachy shade that's a bit too dark for my taste. It's not translucent or white, but rather a solid color that might not suit everyone's preferences.

Is the packaging any good?

Yeah, the packaging is really sturdy and looks high-end. The slightly mirrored finish gives it a metallic appearance that's quite nice.

Is this lip balm suitable for everyday use?

No, I wouldn't recommend it for everyday use, especially in dry weather. It's not moisturizing enough to keep my lips hydrated for an extended period.

What's the texture like?

The texture feels nice on my lips, but it's not particularly moisturizing. It's more of a light, non-greasy feel that's easy to apply.

Is this lip balm worth the price?

It's not too expensive, considering the quality. However, I wouldn't say it's worth the price considering its performance.

Does this lip balm accentuate lip imperfections?

Yes, unfortunately. The balm accentuates any lip imperfections, like fine lines and dry patches, which made it hard for me to use.

Can I use this lip balm in dry weather?

No, I wouldn't recommend it. The balm disappears from my lips way too quickly, and it's not moisturizing enough to keep my lips hydrated in dry weather.

What's the scent like?

The scent is pleasant, but not overpowering. It's a nice, subtle fragrance that's easy to tolerate.
