The plot of the movie is based on this true story, but there's more to it. Apparently, Karina was supposed to leave with her father, but he had some issues and didn't take her with him.
So, Karina's mom, grandma, and grandpa thought she was with her dad for a few days, but in reality, she was wandering around the woods the entire time. It's only after four days that they reported her missing to the authorities.
The search for Karina was incredibly challenging, especially given the harsh environment of the Siberian taiga. I mean, we're talking about a four-year-old girl who spent 12 days in those woods.
