KAIF 018 Gabi Perfume Review: A Fresh Take on Classic Chanel Fragrances

summarizeEditor's Summary

I picked up the KAIF 018 Gabi perfume after being impressed by its fruity notes during a tester session. I thought it was a great opportunity to compare it to the real deal - Chanel fragrances. The result? A fragrance that's perfect for warm weather and offers excellent value for money. While it's not a game-changer, it's definitely worth every penny. I was a bit skeptical about the price, but after using it for a week, I can confidently say it's a great choice for anyone looking for a light, easy-to-wear perfume. The KAIF 018 Gabi perfume features a unique blend of grapefruit, mandarin, and blackcurrant in the top notes, which gives it a fresh and lively feel. It's a great alternative to traditional Chanel scents, which can be a bit overpowering at times. Overall, I'm really happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a new perfume.

I picked up the KAIF 018 Gabi perfume for someone who thinks they love Chanel fragrances. It was actually one of the testers I'd come across before, and it stuck with me. I thought it was more fruity compared to the others. Seeing it was available from KAIF, I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone: get a gift and compare the two.
Gabrielle Chanel - the inspiration behind KAIF 018 Gabi
For: Women
Perfume group: Floral
Volume: 50ml
Top notes: Grapefruit, Mandarin, and Blackcurrant;
Middle notes: Orange Blossom, Jasmine, Ilang-Ilang, Tuberose, Lily of the valley, Apple, and Pink Pepper;
Base notes: Musk, Sandalwood, Cashmeran, and Iris Root.
Packaging
The rectangular, glossy box is a bright, cheerful color - I'd say it's more like ochre than orange. The box background features a shifting pattern of small rhombi. The left edge is white with the text 'All you need is Kaif'. I love the design; it's super eye-catching.
The bottle inside the box is snug in a cardboard 'sleeve'. I got a version with a decently secure lid, so it's easy to get out. The bottle itself is pretty standard, but I appreciate the simplicity.
Bottle
The transparent, heavy glass looks sleek. There are horizontal grooves on the sides for easier handling. It's simple and shiny. A mirrored, slightly convex sticker with the brand name and perfume number is attached to the side. The gold cap has a debossed brand logo on top. It's a nice touch, but not essential.
The liquid is quite light, with a warm, golden hue. The color is really pretty, and it stands out on my dresser.
The sprayer works well, without any issues. I like that it's not too strong or overpowering.
For whom
It's a pretty feminine scent, but it doesn't require you to dress up in heels and jewelry to appreciate it. You can easily imagine wearing it with a white shirt and jeans and sneakers. I think it's a great option for everyday wear.
My impressions and associations
The scent is light and fresh. But the freshness isn't crystal-clear or mineral-like; it's more like a warm breeze. I love the feeling of it on my skin.
I'll be honest, the initial application process was a bit weird for me. It started with a bit of alcohol and orange peel with zest. But that zest was somehow dusty and slightly bitter. I wasn't a fan of that 'dusty' feeling at first, but it did fade away quickly.
Then, a fruity and slightly sweet note crept in. For me, it was reminiscent of red currants, although the pyramid said it was black. These currants were super ripe and sweet, like a warm compote.
As the scent evolved, it became more floral. I picked up on lily of the valley.
Eventually, the base became transparent and close to skin. I detected something woody: far-off sandalwood.
It's all very classic Chanel to me: citrus, flowers, and wood. Just a bit softer. I really enjoy the balance of notes.
One of the reasons I sometimes wear KAIF 018 Gabi is when I need a confidence boost. It's like having a young, caring mom by my side, just like when I was a kid.
My associations with the KAIF 018 Gabi scent
Seasonal wear
It's perfect for spring, summer, and warm autumn since it's not too heavy. It also shines in rainy weather. Although, I've noticed that many scents become more intense in rainy weather due to higher humidity and better fragrance diffusion. It's not ideal for cold autumn and winter.
Longevity
KAIF 018 Gabi has average longevity for me. I get used to it quickly, and sometimes I think it's gone, but others can still smell it. I can detect some lingering notes on my elbow crease and the next day.
Verdict
I'm deducting a star for that initial 'dusty' feeling that didn't sit well with me. Compared to the sample I first tried, which was a more pronounced fruit note, this is a more wearable and universal scent. It's especially great for warm weather when I struggle to find something that's not overwhelming or too heavy.
