I recently rewatched Christopher Nolan's remake of 'Insomnia', and I'm still impressed by how well he turned this thriller into a compelling story.

Along with the detectives, Ellie Burr is working, who is a longtime admirer of Dormer's methods. Arriving in a tiny town, both law enforcement officers face unfamiliar conditions that hinder their search for the killer.

I'm a huge fan of Nolan. The 'Prestige', 'Memento', the 'Dark Knight' trilogy - all of it is just fantastic. His vision of some stories is pretty engaging. Despite being a remake, 'Insomnia' turned out really well.
Firstly, the cast. Al Pacino, Robin Williams, Hilary Swank, Martin Donovan. All of them are talented actors, and I have no complaints about them.

Insomnia (2002)I also love the locations. Whether it's green or snowy, if the cinematographer gets it right, the visuals can even save a mediocre film. This one isn't mediocre, but the scenery adds to what's happening on screen.

Insomnia (2002)Thirdly, the plot itself. You can figure out who the killer is a bit sooner than halfway through, but the director manages to add another intriguing twist that keeps you engaged in the cat-and-mouse game between the law and lawlessness.
Insomnia (2002)The atmosphere is indeed tense. Everything that's happening on screen is complicated by Dormer's insomnia, caused by the polar night. His thoughts are jumbled, and the more it goes on, the harder it is for him to distinguish reality from the haze.
Insomnia (2002)And these problems that start for him from the moment he arrives weigh heavily on him and those around him. So, catching the killer turns into a kind of wild ride. The insomnia centrifuge that's dragging Dormer in pulls him under, making it hard to think rationally. But he persists, digging through the fog in his head to figure out the killer's identity and then take them down.
Insomnia (2002)Yeah, Dormer makes mistakes, just like many others. But he tries not to show his frustration when he realizes his errors. Although, nope, his true emotions do come out. And when he finally understands and accepts his mistakes, his state is eerily similar to being in a daze, like a boxer after a punch – it's called a 'grogginess' (that's a real term from boxing, where a fighter's consciousness is suddenly impaired, making them stumble, almost like a sudden intoxication, while they're still standing).
Insomnia (2002)I was hooked from the get-go, and Nolan's twist on the story kept me on the edge of my seat. Watching the back-and-forth between the two sides, with one plummeting into the depths of insomnia and the other dodging the truth, was utterly captivating.
Insomnia (2002)Now, I won't deny that the movie has its flaws. There are moments where it feels a bit dragged out, probably because I'd already pieced together the killer's identity by that point. Still, I found myself fully immersed in the world, right alongside Al Pacino's character. Time seemed to stand still around me.
Insomnia (2002)The ending, while predictable, was still satisfying. After living through those sleepless nights with Dormer, you can't help but want it all to come together in the end.
I really enjoyed this film, and I'll definitely be rewatching it down the line. If you're looking for a gripping mystery, I'd definitely recommend giving it a shot.
