A spacious fridge with a major flaw: it's too loud for my taste

summarizeEditor's Summary

I recently swapped out my old fridge for a shiny new one from Indezit, and while it's been a total game changer in terms of space and style, there's one major issue that's got me scratching my head: it's ridiculously loud. I mean, I've had it for a week now, and I'm still getting used to the constant humming noise. It's not the end of the world, but it's definitely a drawback. On the bright side, the fridge itself is a beast, with tons of room for all my favorite snacks and leftovers. And the price? Totally worth it. But if you're looking for a fridge that's going to blend into the background, this might not be the one for you. I've been using it for a week, and I've got to say, it's been a mixed bag. The good stuff: it's a total value for money, considering the price and the features you get. The design is sleek and modern, and it looks great in my kitchen. The buttons and controls are super easy to use, even for someone like me who's not exactly tech-savvy. And the no-frost feature? A total lifesaver during the winter months. The customer support team is also super responsive and helpful, which is a big plus in my book.

Our trusty old fridge had been faithfully serving us for 20, if not 30 years, before it finally gave up the ghost without warning. Honestly, the freezer had been on its last legs since summer, but I guess it was waiting till the end of the year to kick the bucket. No matter how much I fiddled, poked, or patted it on the back, it wouldn't come back to life. Repairing it seemed like a costly affair, so we decided to take the plunge and get a new fridge.
I quickly scanned the market and landed on a new fridge from Indezit, the same brand as our old one. I was looking for something straightforward – just a fridge, a freezer, and no frost (Nofrost all around). And, of course, it had to fit in the old space.
I ordered it from Eldorado with delivery, and I had to pay a bit extra for the old fridge to be taken away.
The fridge cost 31,500, plus delivery, but there were some discounts that brought the price down.
So, I come home from work, and my husband greets me at the door with a big smile.
It's a sleek, shiny new fridge.
It's wrapped in thick layers of foam on the sides.
Let's get it out of the box.
Finally, we can take a look at what's behind it.
Cooling tubes, radiator mesh.
Works on a 220V network.
The manual was included in the package.
Inside, there was additional protection for the shelves to prevent them from sliding out.
Turn it on – and voilà! The light is working (our light bulb has been on its last legs for a couple of years now, by the way).
I had to fiddle around a bit to get it perfectly level, but luckily, the extendable leg came in handy. As for the back, I had to add a little wooden panel to get it stable.
Now, let's check if everything's working and the boxes are intact.
The two-chamber fridge is a game-changer. The top section is just a regular fridge, where you can set the temperature to whatever you like or turn it off completely. There are a few different modes to choose from, each with a different temperature. And the cold air is flowing in – hooray!
The light is on, and it's a nice feature – our model had it on the side, but this one has it on top.
The top section has four shelves, plus a drawer for fruits and veggies – we had two drawers, but this one only has one.
You can adjust the shelf layout to increase the space between them.
The water bottle fits, but a 1.5-liter bottle is a bit too big and just sits on the shelf. Everything fits perfectly once the temperature drops – it's like having a second set of hands in the kitchen!
The door has some extra shelves and an egg tray, which is super convenient.
One thing I love about this fridge is that you can swap the doors around, so they open from either the left or the right.
I've got to say, our old fridge had a door that was a real pain to open – it would just fall off the hinges! But it turns out you don't have to replace the whole door, you can just reattach it to the other side and it'll work like a charm. We managed to squeeze our fridge between the wall, windowsill, and kitchen counter – it was a tight fit, but it worked out in the end.
The freezer is at the bottom, and there are three shelves inside. I'm not sure if the temperature is different on each level, but I haven't checked lately. You can adjust the freezing temperature using a dial on the top of the fridge.
The freezer doors close tightly, with a rubber seal around the edges.
I've got to say, the freezer kicked in pretty quickly. The meat, the dumplings, and some pre-made stuff – the freezer's doing a great job of keeping them frozen.
And, to be fair, our fridge has been with us for a couple of months now – the delivery was smooth. No issues with frost, no problems, thankfully.
I've been messing around with the temperature inside the fridge.
But in the end, I settled on the 'eco' mode – it's around 6-8 degrees in there.
The fridge is sitting perfectly on its own, not making any weird noises or wobbling around.
One thing that's a bit of a bummer is that it's pretty loud! Not like a vacuum cleaner or anything, but it's not exactly the most pleasant thing to have in the room with you, especially if it's right next to your bedroom.
In our case, since the fridge is on the kitchen side, we can barely hear it from the other room.
But when it's early in the morning and the house is quiet, you can definitely hear it.
