I finally got around to reading Gillian Flynn's thriller 'Gone Girl', but unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype for me. With 810 pages to get through, I was expecting a gripping story that would keep me on the edge of my seat. Unfortunately, the plot twists and turns didn't quite work for me, and I found myself meh about the whole thing. Maybe it's just not my cup of tea, but I didn't find it to be the game-changing thriller that everyone else seems to love. If you're a fan of the genre, you might still enjoy it, but for me, it was a total letdown. I was expecting a more complex and suspenseful plot, but the twists and turns felt predictable and didn't quite work for me. The characters are well-developed, but their motivations can be hard to understand at times, and their actions feel inconsistent. Overall, I was disappointed by 'Gone Girl' and wouldn't recommend it to fans of the genre.

I've been putting off reading Gillian Flynn's thriller 'Gone Girl' for ages, and I was determined not to watch the movie with Ben Affleck before finishing the book. Finally, I got around to reading it.
Well, I'm not a huge fan of thrillers, and this one didn't change my mind. I have to say, I was pretty meh about the story from the start.

The main character is Nick Dunne, who's married to Amy. They're celebrating their 5-year anniversary, but on that day, Amy goes missing, and they find signs of a struggle and her blood in the house.

Nick tells us about himself, and we get to know Amy through her diary entries, which she wrote over 7 years, starting from the day she met Nick.

But when the police started investigating Amy's disappearance, it got interesting. Every clue they found suggested that it was a murder, and the only suspect was... (you'll guess who it is)

But things took a turn for the worse when some of his secrets came to light during the investigation - at that point, I was actively rooting against him. On the other hand, Amy's diary entries made me feel sorry for her. She seemed like a kind and good person who'd been dealt a bad hand in life, especially with her husband.
I quickly figured out what was coming in the second part of the book (and it was pretty predictable). This time, we're not reading Amy's diary entries anymore; instead, we're getting her thoughts on everything that's happened, and I was shocked at how quickly things turned around. Now I see Amy and Nick in a completely different light.
The Book 'Gone Girl' by Gillian FlynnSo why did I give the book such a low rating? It's mainly because of the terrible ending. It was so bad that I immediately regretted spending my time on it. To be honest, the book was a bit of a rollercoaster ride for me - it started slowly, picked up speed in the middle, and then dropped off again when all the secrets were revealed. But the ending just killed it for me. If you're hoping for a happy ending or something sad and meaningful, you're out of luck. The book's finale is a total letdown.
Unfortunately, the book's ending is a complete disappointment. I was expecting a satisfying conclusion or a heart-wrenching finale, but what I got was a mess.

As a thriller fan, I've read a few books in the genre that I've enjoyed, like the Jane Rizzoli series by Tess Gerritsen. She's the only author who's managed to impress me with their thrillers. If you're looking for a good thriller, I'd recommend checking out her books.
