I'm sharing my experience with the Glo Air tobacco heating device, and let me tell you, it's been a wild ride. If you're short on time, skip to the end for the verdict.
I've been a smoker for a while, but I've always stuck to light cigarettes. My friends often tease me about being a 'convert,' but I do love a good cigarette, and lately, I've been using sticks. With the current situation in our country, where sticks for lil SOLID 2.0 and IQOS have become scarce, I decided to try Glo. It's considered a less harmful option than cigarettes, after all.
So, I bought the Glo Air device without doing much research on the different models available. I just went for the first one I saw.
The box contains the device itself, which is quite stylish, a Type-C USB cable, a cleaning brush, and a manual. It's super easy to use: just slide open the lid, insert a stick, press the power button, and... well, you'll either love it or hate it.
The Glo Air has two session modes:
1. Standard mode: it takes 3 seconds to turn on, and you need to hold the power button. It heats up in 20 seconds, vibrates, and you're good to go. The session lasts around 4 minutes.
2. BOOST mode: it turns on in 5 seconds, with two stages: the first vibration happens at 3 seconds, and the second at 5 seconds. It heats up in 15 seconds, and the session lasts 3 minutes. According to the manufacturers, this mode gives a more intense tobacco flavor.
I've tried both modes, and now I'll move on to the actual experience of using the device.
The saleswoman who sold me the device showed me which sticks to use and helped me choose the right strength. She recommended sticks from Kent and Neo, along with a bunch of flavor options. Unfortunately, we don't have many plain tobacco sticks available in our city yet. I opted for a medium strength, without any flavor.
I've already tried out the sticks, but I don't think it's necessary to write a review about them. I've only tried three types of tobacco: Kent classic tabacco, Kent strong tabacco, and Neo Bridhit tabacco.
I'll start with Kent classic tabacco - it has a light taste. But here's the thing: I don't really know how to describe it, but I've noticed that I'm producing a lot of smoke, and the taste of the tobacco is almost nonexistent. It's got a really sweet aftertaste, which I didn't like at first. I've realized that for me, 3-4 minutes of smoking is a lot - I'm taking 6-7 puffs and it's enough. I'm basically just burning half of it and throwing the rest away. It's my problem, I guess. It feels like I'm doing some kind of inhalation for my throat. Even with the BOOST mode, it's the same story - lots of smoke, sweet taste in my mouth, and no tobacco flavor at all. My throat is getting scorched from the vapor.
Next up is Kent strong tabacco - it's supposed to be a bit stronger, but I couldn't find any information about it. On standard mode, it's the same thing - lots of smoke, sweet taste, and no tobacco flavor. With the BOOST mode, I finally get a hint of tobacco flavor, but my throat is still getting scorched from the vapor.
But then there's Neo Bridhit tabacco - we didn't exactly hit it off. I'm glad I only bought one pack to try it out. The girl who sold it to me said it was tobacco without any flavorings. The manufacturer claims it's high-quality tobacco, but I couldn't find much information about it. The first puff was a real shock - I was choking on some kind of bright, cloyingly sweet flavor. It was only two puffs, and I realized I just can't smoke this stuff. Maybe it's the taste of hot honey that I don't like, but it's just not for me. There's still a lot of smoke, no tobacco flavor, and that sweet, cloying taste. And, of course, my throat is still getting scorched from the vapor. I'm trying to be objective here.
And now the most interesting part. A couple of weeks later, I started noticing something strange - I'd be talking and suddenly I'd start choking and coughing. I thought it was just because I wasn't getting enough exercise and my lungs weren't used to it. I started paying closer attention to myself. When I was smoking, I didn't have any breathing problems, and when I was lying down, I didn't either. But when I was talking, it was like I was running out of air. I stopped smoking the Glo Air for a day, and voila - the choking and coughing stopped. If the coughing was just my lungs clearing out, I could understand that, but the choking I couldn't explain.
I have to say, the device itself works fine, but it doesn't give me the feeling of smoking - it's more like doing an inhalation, and that 'inhalation' didn't do it for me. The whole idea of it was completely off the mark. As for the vapor, it's definitely there, but it's not like the real thing. Everyone's tastes are different, so maybe the Glo air will work for someone else, but it was a total miss for me, and to make matters worse, it had some pretty unpleasant side effects.
