Form Description
The 16-24 cm Biscuit Mold from O'kitchen is made from high-quality stainless steel. The detachable part of the mold is crafted with precision, featuring a smooth finish without any rough edges or irregularities.
The 8.5 cm high rim provides ample space for your baked goods. Inside the mold, you'll find a diameter marker with 2 cm increments, allowing you to set any diameter from 16 cm to 24 cm.
Choose from 16 cm, 18 cm, 20 cm, 22 cm, or 24 cm.
Minimum diameter: 16 cm.
Maximum diameter: 24 cm.
The one thing that's not perfect is when you open it up to its full diameter (24 cm) - the shape does get a bit distorted and loses its circular form. It's not a deal-breaker, but it's noticeable.
The shape does get a bit distorted at 24 cm diameterThe shape comes with a sliding mechanism and handles that make it easy to adjust the diameter.
That's what makes it so easy to adjust the diameter to your liking.
It slides open smoothly and locks into place securely, no matter where you position it.
I don't have a bottom to the shape, so I use foil, parchment paper, or food wrap as a makeshift bottom, depending on what I'm baking in the ring.
The clips on both the inside and outside of the shape are super sturdy and reliable.
Purpose
This adjustable shape is super versatile – you can use it to:
bake a cake of any diameter (from 16 to 24 cm);cut a finished cake to the perfect size;create a classic or mousse-style cake; orassemble salads and cold appetizers.Hands-on Experience
I've used this shape a few times now, over the course of a month, and I'm really impressed. It's a breeze to use, and the finished product looks and tastes amazing – plus, it's a joy to remove from the shape.
Today, I'm sharing a recipe for the famous Three Chocolate Cake, which tastes like melted ice cream and can be made at home with this adjustable metal shape. Without it, you're out of luck!
So, here's what you'll need:
for a cake with a diameter of 18-20 cm
1 egg30 grams of sugar20 grams of flour10 grams of cocoa (I use the TM "Red October")Ingredients for one layer
100 grams of chocolate200 ml of 33-35% fat cream 50 grams of sugar80 ml of milk1 egg 8 grams of gelatin (I have instant Dr.Oetker)50 ml of water or milk for soaking You'll need to multiply all the ingredients by the number of layers you plan to make.
I measured each layer separately, using three layers of mousse - on dark, milk, and white chocolate.
I whipped the cream in advance and divided it into three parts, then chilled it in the fridge.
Ingredients for making mousse layers for the "Three Chocolates" cakePreparation
I baked a sponge cake in advance, no higher than 2 cm, with a diameter of 18 cm. I set up a removable ring on a plate or cake stand, placed the sponge cake in the removable form, and wrapped it in acetate film (since I didn't have any, I used a thick file folder).
Tip: Secure the top edges with a stapler or clip Since I like moist sponge cakes, I lightly soaked it with a sugar syrup.
A top-down view of the biscuit for making the Three Chocolates cakeNow it's time to make the mousse.
First, I pour the dark chocolate mousse over the biscuit and put it in the fridge for 25 minutes.
The layer of dark chocolate mousseThe next layer is the milk chocolate mousse, and I'll show you the step-by-step process.
I soak the gelatin (I use Dr. Oetker's fast-dissolving gelatin) in milk (or water).
Then, I weigh the sugar using my kitchen scales and add an egg,
I whisk it together with a whisk and set it aside.
Next, I heat the milk to a simmer on medium heat, until it's covered in bubbles. But I don't let it boil!
Then I slowly pour in the milk, creating a thin stream that mixes with the sugar and egg, all while whisking like crazy. I transfer the mixture back to the saucepan and simmer it over low heat, constantly stirring.
The mixture should start to thicken slightly.
Next, I add the softened gelatin to the mixture and give it a good stir until it's fully dissolved.
Then I add in the chocolate and whisk it until it's fully incorporated.
Finally, I fold in the whipped cream that I'd beaten up beforehand. We add whipped cream to the chocolate mixture Milk chocolate mousse is ready,
milk chocolate mousse We pour it into a mold on top of a layer of dark chocolate mousse.
Tap the board gently on the table to distribute it evenly in the mold and get rid of any excess air. Put it in the fridge for 25 minutes. (Or freezer for 10 minutes).
Make white chocolate mousse using the same recipe and pour it into the mold on top of the previous one. Put the mold back in the fridge. Let it set until the cake is fully set. Then, you need to remove the ring and take off the acetate sheet (in my case, a dense film).
Pro tip, to make the sheet come off easier, heat the mold gently with a hair dryer from all sides, then the edges of the cake will be nice and even. Thanks to the mold, you get a smooth and beautiful cake.
I made a cake for my husband's birthday, and it turned out pretty great.
The flavor is really similar to a rich, creamy ice cream - it's that good. The 'Three Chocolates' cake is delicious, and it looks amazing when you slice into it.
That's the secret to making great cakes - it's all about the details. I also need a smaller mold for making layered salads. Layered salads are a great way to use up leftover ingredients, and they're super easy to make. Just place the mold on a plate, secure it to the right size, and start layering your ingredients.
The result is a beautiful, neatly presented salad.
I also use this mold for baking biscuits. To prevent the dough from spilling over, line the bottom with foil and press the edges down slightly. You don't need to grease the mold, either - just slice the biscuit with a knife and it'll come out perfectly.
I've been using this adjustable form for a month now, and it's been a game-changer for me.
THE GOOD
Value for money;It's made from stainless steel;Comes in different diameters;It's compact;Super versatile;Easy to use;Perfect for building cakes and salads;Great for baking.THE NOT-SO-GOOD
When I use it at its maximum diameter, it does lose a bit of its circular shape.
THE VERDICT
The Fix Price O'kitchen 16-24 cm adjustable form has been an indispensable tool for me, not just for making cakes and desserts, but also for serving. After a month of use, it still looks brand new and is a breeze to clean. Plus, it's compact, so it doesn't take up too much space. Overall, I'd highly recommend it. Despite one minor flaw, I'd give it five stars.
