End of Days (1999) Action Movie

Get ready for a wild ride with End of Days, the 1999 action-packed film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. This classic thriller has it all: intense action, heart-pumping suspense, and Schwarzenegger's signature charm. The movie follows a detective as he tries to stop the Antichrist from coming to power. With its gripping storyline and memorable performances, End of Days is a must-watch for fans of the action genre. I've seen this one a few times, and it still holds up today - the action scenes are intense, and Schwarzenegger's character is as tough as ever.

End of Days: A Mindless Action Movie That's Better Left Unwatched

summarizeEditor's Summary

I'm not gonna lie, End of Days is a total letdown. This mystical action movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger fails to deliver on its promise of a thrilling ride. With a convoluted plot and lackluster acting, it's a chore to sit through. The turn of the millennium, which marked the start of the 21st century in 1999, was a great source of inspiration for the world of cinema, but this movie doesn't do it justice. If you value your time, skip this one and watch something else. The movie's themes of good vs. evil are timeless, but they're handled poorly and feel like an afterthought. The special effects hold up surprisingly well even today, but that's about it.

End of Days is a mystical action movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger that I'd advise skipping.
The turn of the millennium, which marked the start of the 21st century in 1999, caused quite a stir back then and was also enthusiastically used as a source of inspiration in the world of cinema.
I saw this movie in the mid-2000s, and it showed up in my recommendations as a film similar to "The Stigmata." Let's just say it's a distant cousin or something.
Where to watch - on VK or Lord.Genre - action, horrorIMDb description:
For centuries, her birth was feared. Since the beginning of the era, solitary hermits have been writing down the words of a terrifying prophecy in their isolated cells. In the depths of time, the stars foretold a terrible fate for the child: she would become the bride of the Devil himself. And at the end of the millennium, Satan would rise from hell to enter into a terrible union with the unfortunate woman. If this were to happen, evil would reign on earth, and humanity would be forever plunged into darkness.

The terrible prophecy, which people were afraid to believe, came true. The prince of darkness broke free from his prison in search of his bride. Time turned back, counting down the moments to the apocalyptic finale. But the predictors didn't account for one thing - the person who dared to stand in the way of the all-powerful Lucifer, determined to stop the Apocalypse single-handedly...

Fast forward to the millennium. As Satan sets out to find a bride, he decides to check out New York, and it's up to a former cop - Arnold Schwarzenegger - to stop him.
Who can stop the devil - played to perfection by Gabriel Byrne - and save the millennium? Arnold Schwarzenegger, of course!
Arnold was at the height of his popularity in the late 90s. Who had he not fought - from robots to Greek gods, bears to alligators? The only thing left was, of course, the Antichrist. So, the producers found a great project and gave Arnold the lead role.
Fans of Arnold will be screaming with joy, fans of mindless action will be screaming in surprise, and Catholics will just be screaming.
Throughout the whole film, as expected, the lead actor's face displays a somewhat unconvincing expression of fear. Arnold's always looking too macho in every scene!
I've got to say, the dialogue in this movie is laughable. Arnold's one-liners, which should be serious, sound ridiculous instead.
Watching "End of Days" left me with the feeling that the creators were trying to make it unique for a typical Hollywood action movie by incorporating a religious theme.
Of course, they didn't quite succeed, but I'll give them credit for trying.
At times, the script shows promise as a good religious thriller, and occasionally even delves into philosophical discussions.
I'll sum up how silly the movie and script are with just two examples. First, the dialogue between Arnold and the Antichrist.
When Arnold takes on Satan, I thought it'd be a holy water or crucifixion scene, but nope, he goes for a bazooka! Even the devil didn't see that twist coming.
After a thrilling start (which reminded me of 'The Devil's Advocate'), the movie really doesn't deliver.
Two hours of your life you'll never get back. And I'm not just talking about me – I lost my notes, but you can still save yourselves.
Faults:
Two hours of pure madnessUnfortunately, Arnold's expression of fear on his face is unconvincing way too often throughout the movieDia Who's worth watching:
For the most die-hard Arnold Schwarzenegger fans
