I've noticed a trend lately: new movies promise one thing, but deliver something entirely different. It's like that with the new thriller "Drop" (2025). They say it's a drama, a thriller, a detective story, and sometimes even a horror movie. But from where I'm sitting, it's a solid thriller with some action elements – nothing more.
I also think it's a film about a strong woman who didn't even realize her own potential, but managed to stand up for herself. That's a theme that resonates with me, so I wanted to share my thoughts.

Drop Review I have to admit, this part of the movie caught me off guard - the main character is this stunning beauty, the ideal, and her sister is just not in the same league.
The Sisters of DropAnd the way she's trashing Violet's outfit just looks ridiculous.
Violet's Sister from Drop I mean, maybe it's because of the self-esteem issues she's dealing with after the trauma, but the scene still feels far-fetched. And there are plenty of moments like that in the movie.When Violet chooses that super revealing dress with the deep neckline, she heads out to meet someone.
Things are going okay, but her date is running a bit behind.
Then, out of nowhere, she starts getting these weird threats on her phone via AirDrop, which gradually escalate into promises to kill her son if she doesn't do what the stalker wants.

My Impressions of Drop
I wouldn't say that I hated Drop - I was engaged throughout the movie and didn't regret the time I spent watching it. At the same time, it left me with the impression of something disposable, more entertaining than deep.
The first part of the movie is super slow, but then the plot takes off and becomes a wild ride. What starts out as a thriller with romantic drama elements turns into a high-energy action flick.

What starts out as a damsel in distress situation, Violet suddenly becomes this almost superhero-like character who can take down her abuser with ease.
She's got no problem with a few punches or a fall from a skyscraper – she's driving like a pro and taking down bad guys left and right.
It's just not my cup of tea, though. I'm all for a woman being able to stand up for herself and her loved ones, but here it feels like they've gone overboard with the realism. And don't even get me started on the scenes of violence against women and the threats to hurt her kid – it's just not something I'm comfortable with.
The movie's got a ton of flashbacks showing Violet's ex-husband being super abusive. At first, I'm not even sure if it's a flashback or real-time – it's only later that I realize what's going on. And even then, I'm left wondering what actually happened.
But, in my opinion, this storyline isn't executed that well – it doesn't really have any impact.
I mean, the main character was acting weird and creepy, but her date didn't bail on her, and instead kept giving her chance after chance. Maybe he's just a total sweetheart, or maybe he was motivated by a hint of something more after the date... But it's hard to believe in someone's ironclad patience like that, especially when it's from someone you barely know.

I personally didn't like the reason that sparked all these events, but that's just a matter of taste. I'm just not a fan of that kind of thing. Anyway, the movie ends with a clear happy ending, which is always a plus.

✖ I had a major issue with the lack of realism - there were times when I wanted to shout 'I don't believe it!' like Stanislavski. ✖ The film was way too graphic for my taste. ✖ The transition from thriller to action movie was jarring. ✖ There were some ridiculous moments that took me out of the experience. ✖ Overall, it felt like a one-and-done kind of movie.

«Drop» is the perfect movie for a one-night stand. The first half had me hooked with its intense atmosphere, but the second half was all about the action.
