Ugh, my least favorite months of the year are finally here – December, January, February, and March. It's dark, slippery, and freezing outside. I decided to spice up one of these gloomy evenings with a unique and tasty dinner. I searched online for something exotic and affordable in the area, and I stumbled upon a gem – Gonskongese waffles, which I'd never tried before. I hopped in the car and arrived at Double Bubble Coffee on North Highway 18B within 10 minutes.
Double Bubble Coffee The coffee shop is located in the Sunny Complex, and it's not exactly the coziest place during the winter – it's dark, snowy, and chaotic. The buildings in the complex look like old candies, like iris or pomade, under the night sky.
The buildings in the Sunny Complex look like old candies I stepped inside the coffee shop – it has two small rooms, one with an open kitchen, a couple of couches by the window, a bar counter with high stools, and the other room with a couple of red couches, a bookshelf, a coat rack, and a toilet.
The tables with red couchesThe bookshelf and umbrella The coffee shop's interior is decorated in an Asian style – Chinese newspapers, paper lanterns, dragon figurines, bird figurines, fans, and umbrellas. There are a couple of acrylic paintings on the wall with Gonskongese waffle designs, and a small Christmas tree with ornaments and garlands in the corner.
The Christmas tree in the coffee shopThe kitchenThe acrylic painting in the coffee shopOn a cold December evening, the coffee shop was relatively empty, and I received my order quickly.
I'm still waiting for my order I've been to the Double Bubble cafe twice. The first time, I ordered the classic bubble sandwich, a chocolate waffle with kiwi and chocolate sauce, and a milkshake. The second time, I ordered the Greek bubble sandwich, a vanilla waffle with bananas and nutella, and a unique tea - the Bubble-T 'Milk Oolong with Mango Syrup and Tapioca'. The order was prepared quickly, and it was nicely packed, making it easy to take home or on a walk.
The waffles are nicely packed in paper bags, and you can even ask for a plastic bag 'pocket' for extra convenience I'm always up for trying new dishes. The classic bubble sandwich consists of a waffle, melted cheddar cheese, chicken breast, tomato slices, arugula, and sauce. The waffle is made to order and turns out super fresh, aromatic, and delicious. The filling doesn't disappoint, although the arugula has a slightly aggressive taste (I'm not a big fan of this type of greens), all the ingredients sound like a well-rehearsed rock 'n' roll band. The filling is also cut to order, and it's fresh and appetizing. The sandwich is super tasty - I really enjoyed it. While trying the classic bubble sandwich, I noticed that it doesn't remind me of Hong Kong, but rather of America. This sandwich would fit right in at a diner from the movie 'American Graffiti' served to customers on Chevy and Hot Rods with fresh orange juice and rock 'n' roll.
Classic bubble sandwich The chocolate waffle with kiwi and chocolate sauce didn't quite impress me as much as the sandwich - the kiwi was too sour, and the waffle with chocolate sauce wasn't very moist. The cafe's menu has a lot of interesting fillings - ice cream, jam, marshmallows, various berries, and fruits. The combination of chocolate and kiwi is a tasty one, if only the kiwi was a bit sweeter.
Chocolate waffle with kiwi and chocolate paste I was stoked to see that the milkshake is made to order. The chef whips up a tasty treat with creamy milk, a scoop of ice cream, and a drizzle of syrup. It's sweet, but not too sweet - just right. I loved it with the sweet desserts. The Greek bubble sandwich is a real winner - I'm talking fresh waffle, creamy feta cheese, rocket, juicy tomato slices, and crunchy pickles. It's a flavor bomb that's got me hooked. The rocket might be a bit too peppery, but it works with the other ingredients. It's not as classic as the original, but it's definitely a contender.
Greek bubble sandwich The vanilla waffle with peanut butter and banana is a real showstopper - it's like a taste of America, you know? It's sweet, creamy, and indulgent. I loved it way more than the kiwi and chocolate version.
Vanilla waffle with bananas and peanut butter The bubble tea with mango and tapioca is a real treat - it's like a work of art, just like the paintings of Ilya Glazunov. The flavors are so rich and complex, it's like a taste sensation. I loved the tapioca pearls, which are like a sweet and slightly gelatinous treat. And the best part? The cup is sealed with a plastic lid, making it super convenient for on-the-go.
Bubble tea 'milk tea with mango and tapioca' I've got to say, the menu at Double Bubble Cafe is a real winner - the food and drinks are all fresh and delicious. My only gripe is that the cafe is located in a pretty busy area, but that's not a deal-breaker. I'd recommend grabbing a sandwich or dessert and heading to the nearby Ramanovsky Park for a mini picnic. It's the perfect way to unwind and enjoy the great outdoors.
Decorations in Ramenki Park Christmas Tree in Ramenki Park If you live in Ramenki, I highly recommend checking out the Double Bubble coffee shop. It's a hidden gem. Thanks for reading, and I hope you have a great holiday season!
