A Clay Mask That Surpassed My Expectations

I recently picked up the Dokdo Mud pack clay mask from Round Lab, a well-known Korean brand, and I'm so glad I did. I was expecting to use it mainly during warmer months, but I've ended up using it regularly because it's surprised me with its great effect even on dry skin.

The mask's texture is a lovely gray-beige color, thick and viscous but incredibly creamy and pleasant to the touch, spreading evenly across my skin. The scent is calm and gentle, more like a cream, with a subtle clay undertone that's not overpowering.

Before When this cream mask dries, it doesn't crack, but instead forms a sort of film that helps lock in the liquid and allows all the good ingredients to work their magic - including clay, sea water, hyaluronic acid, allantoin, and panthenol. They also calm the skin and, interestingly, lactobacillus. Since the mask is more of a thick cream, it's a bit harder to wash off when it's dry, but I loved the effect from the very first use. Application I recommend leaving the mask on for 15-20 minutes, but I always forget and end up leaving it on for 30-40 minutes. To my surprise, the mask doesn't dry out my skin, unlike the traditional clay masks I used to use 6 years ago, which would irritate my skin.

After But since everything I've tried from Round Lab has worked for me - including four types of sheet masks, a toner, an SPF moisturizer, a face wash, a serum, and two types of moisturizers - I decided to splurge on this pricey clay mask. The main goal of Korean skincare for any age and skin type is to clean and calm the skin, and Koreans are experts at it. Round Lab is also one of the top three popular skincare brands in South Korea, according to Olive Yang.

After applying the mask, I seal it in with a Round Lab serum and moisturizer. Results:

To my surprise, this clay mask doesn't dry out my skin, even in the cold winter months. The main effect is that it actively calms irritated skin from the cold air and dryness from the heating, and reduces small breakouts that come with it. The five soothing ingredients in the mask also help to slightly shrink my pores, although they're not particularly large to begin with.

My skin has never looked smoother after using this toner - it's like a breath of fresh air. I used it every morning during the summer to keep my skin feeling fresh throughout the day, and now I'm down to using it just two times a week at night. The best part is that it's really economical - you can get away with applying a thin layer, just like you see in the photo above.
