The Most Divisive Disney Project You'll Ever See

This Disney project has been one of the most polarizing for many viewers. I just don't get the hype surrounding it.

It's relatively easy to create a storyline with a missing parent for a princess, but when it comes to a full family, things get complicated. Love is no longer absolute or default; it becomes a real challenge that not everyone can overcome.

But hey, it's Disney, so everything's supposed to work out in the end, right?

Let's face it, the historical context on screen is just a backdrop. We get that.

So, in this incredibly full family, there's only one voice of reason - the mom. Chaos reigns supreme, and as the conflict escalates, it becomes utter chaos.

It's clear that parents struggle to explain to their kids that, even though they're a continuation of themselves, they're still separate individuals with their own plans for life.

We're all used to the idea that the word of the elders is law. However, in today's world where education trumps experience, that idea is being challenged. Unfortunately, not everyone adapts well to this change.

Now things start to go downhill with the storyline that doesn't match the family-friendly setting, because this one's got a surprisingly edgy content.

🐼🌃 Storyline: Once upon a time, there was a princess. And everything was great for her. Almost. Because her mom was always nagging her to study and learn. But that was tolerable as long as her dad was encouraging her interests and not getting in the way on weekends. But then things took a turn for the worse when it was time for her to leave the family home and become the queen of a neighboring kingdom. In other words, get married. Her mom was over the moon about her daughter's success on the marriage market. But the princess was not. Seizing an opportunity in the local laws, she saved her honor... by putting her mom's kingdom's honor at risk. Her mom was furious. But the princess wasn't made of sugar and spice either: she decided to change her fate by consulting a witch. And that witch was a real piece of work, too - she forgot to mention that all wishes come with a price, and it's not just about being brave enough to go into the woods and make a sacrifice for a trinket.

I've seen this concept before, but this time it's like the mom bear - when people take the phrase 'change her' literally.

Love can restore balance to the universe, but it's not the only thing that can.

And that's where the moralists come in.

This isn't just about the daughter's treachery, as you might think - it's more about not being able to see beyond, think deeper, and wider.

These are the perspectives you should be talking to your kids about, and often.

The more you talk about them, the better.

Because what's obvious to you might be a dark forest for others - one that's not even marked on the map.

Life's journey is a winding road, and everyone's is different. Parents usually lead the way at first, holding their kid's hand and showing them where to go. But let's not forget that their kid's life isn't always going to be planned out. It's not because they're being malicious, but because they have their own rules.

What's good for you might be poison for others.

When you're showing the way, it's easy to forget that it's your path, not theirs, and that you're the only one who gets to walk it. You're the one who sees this path and understands its logic, while others might find it useless at best or a waste of life at worst.

And it's great if a kid not only sees this but also has the courage to say no to what's being forced on them. It might not be what others want to hear, and it might not be what they expect, but a grown-up can handle that disappointment, accept it, and move on. Forcing your will on someone else is a problem, and its consequences say more about the parent than the kid.

Oh, this is just a Disney cartoon, why be so serious?

Let's talk about the visuals - the artwork is stunning, and the soundtrack is just as beautiful. Officially, Meredith is the messiest Disney princess with the most iconic hairstyle, courtesy of her complete lack of a comb. She doesn't need one, either!

I've got to give credit to the animators for their incredible work with nature, especially in scenes like Moana. It's almost hyper-realistic, yet still maintains that subtle cartoonish feel that blends seamlessly with the characters. The attention to detail is impressive, and I'm still blown away by it even after multiple viewings. The color palette is muted, almost restrained by Disney standards.

It's no surprise that the game's title is a nod to its inspirations, but sometimes, the Russian localization team can be a bit... creative. Translating 'brave' as 'bravaya' just doesn't cut it - you need to think of Mel Gibson and his dramatic flair. Oh well.

My verdict: how many bears do you want to buy? - yes. From a family perspective, this is the most realistic cartoon. Because of this, it's raw, bold... and a bit vicious. That's not a flaw, it's a strength. It's just lacking the glossy heroism. The heroine looks like a typical teenager, not a noble princess, like Mulan or Moana. But that doesn't make her any less deserving. It's just that everyone has their own path and obstacles to overcome. And, honestly, getting rid of pride is tougher than crossing a reef or switching genders. The most brutal battle is the one nobody sees.
