A Cozy Spot for No-Frills Eats

summarizeEditor's Summary

I stumbled upon this no-frills eatery right at the foot of the Gamma GK Izmailovo hotel in Moscow. It's a great spot for a quick and affordable meal. The pelmeni are cooked to perfection and are a great value for money. The place is bright, clean, and has a nice seating area. The staff is friendly, but the service can be a bit slow. I've been there a few times, and I'm always satisfied with the food and the price.

Hello there, fellow foodies!
I stumbled upon this small Pelmeni place right at the foot of the Gamma GK Izmailovo hotel in Moscow.
Location - Izmailovo Highway, building 71, apartment 14, Moscow.Hours of operation.
Every day from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
Interior.
The place is pretty straightforward, with two areas. The first one's right when you walk in - it's the display case, fridge, and all that jazz where you order.
The second one's right behind it - it's the seating area.
There aren't many tables, but it's bright and clean in there.
Each table has its own condiments, napkins, sauce, and decorations. There's a TV in the seating area, and you can turn it on if you want.
There's also a direct exit to the restroom from this area.Menu.
The main attraction here is the pelmeni, which they make themselves. The cooked ones are stored in the fridge right next to the cash register and the ice cream.
You've got two options for the pelmeni: 13 pieces with broth or 23 without. They also have some hot dishes like borscht, chicken soup with noodles, and so on.
They also have some second courses, their own baked goods, and drinks.
Wait time for the order. It depends on what you order.
I ordered some hot dishes for the kids during the day - borscht and noodles. It came out quickly, and they warned me it was just cooked and very hot.
In the evening, I ordered pelmeni without broth for the kids. They added sour cream on request. The wait time for that was around 15 minutes, depending on how long the pelmeni took to cook.
I'm a bit surprised that this cafe is always empty. I live nearby, but it seems like people prefer to go to trendier restaurants. However, I did notice that they do offer takeout. Staff.
The two women working at the cash register are friendly and attentive. They take turns, and both are great.
For example, when my kid got a bowl of borscht, they warned him that it was very hot and even brought him an extra plate and spoon to help it cool down.
When my kid said he didn't have enough sour cream, they happily brought him more. Service.
The service is simple and homey. They use white classic dishes and wicker baskets with bread.
Ready dishes. Taste.
I'll share my thoughts on the food from both my kids' perspectives and my own general impression. I didn't eat myself because I was on a strict diet, but I did observe how the food was received.
The cafe doesn't have a separate menu for vegetarians, but they do have some options like potatoes, rice, and so on. However, during the week before Easter, it's a special time, and I was trying to be more mindful of my diet.
The borscht was a hit. It was delicious, and while it might seem pricey at first, the portions are huge. My three kids didn't always finish their meals.
The pelmeni were a huge success. We ordered them multiple times. They're big and look appetizing, with a shiny dough, which is usually a sign that they've been made with milk. My kids didn't always finish them, either.
The chicken broth with noodles was a bit too greasy for my kids' taste. It's hard to say why, but the color of the broth made me wonder if they'd added some oil.
I tried the khachapuri, which I'd bought on the train during Easter. They were a bit stale, but still delicious. I've had khachapuri before, so I have something to compare it to.
Overall, I think this is a great place to grab a bite without breaking the bank. The food is tasty and of good quality. After taking my kids here once, I wasn't afraid to come back. We ended up eating here for two days straight because it's within walking distance of our apartment. If you live in GK Izmailovo, don't walk past this cafe. It may not look fancy like some restaurants, but it's cozy and has a lot of soul. Pros:
menu selectionfresh dishespriceportion sizetastyfriendly staffwait timeCons:
outdated decorkids didn't rate the bathroomI'd give it four stars overall, but I'm comparing it to the entire fast food scene, not just its own category.
Definitely recommend stopping by for lunch and thanks for taking the time to read!
Wishing you a great day and warm regards,
Lena.
