My Mixed Bag Experience at Champion Driving School

summarizeEditor's Summary

I wrapped up my driving lessons at Champion Driving School in my hometown, and I'm still trying to process the whole experience. The theory classes were a solid start, but the cramped classroom was a major pain. Once I got behind the wheel, I had a great instructor, but the car we were driving had some major issues. The school's lack of transparency about the parking situation was also a surprise. It was a mixed bag - some good, some bad.

I wrapped up my driving lessons at Champion Driving School in my hometown, and I'm still trying to process the whole experience. I didn't do much research beforehand - I just went with the school closest to my place.
Theory classes were first, and our instructor did a solid job keeping things engaging. I didn't have any major complaints, but the tiny classroom was a bit of a pain. It was clear they weren't expecting everyone to show up for every class. The classroom was cramped when the whole group showed up.
Once it was time to get behind the wheel, we were assigned to different instructors. Mine was a great guy - super calm and patient. However, the car we were driving, a Renault Logan, had some major issues. The clutch pedal would jerk around, making it hard to control. It happened to the instructor too, and everyone who drove that car complained about it, but the school just shrugged it off. They said the money was paid, and that was it.
The second thing that surprised me was that our school didn't have a designated parking lot. We had to drive to a different part of town, which wasn't mentioned upfront. That's a pretty big deal when you're trying to learn how to drive.
And then there was the whole exam fee situation. They tried to make us feel like we'd never pass if we didn't pay up. And it worked - they bullied those who didn't pay into submission, even on the actual exam day. I'm not even going to get into the GAI exam fee - that's a whole other can of worms.
