A Mixed Bag at the Beta Hotel: My Unconventional Check-In and Room Experience

summarizeEditor's Summary

I'm still trying to wrap my head around my stay at the Beta Hotel. The check-in process was a total disaster, with huge lines and slow staff. But the room itself was a different story - the view was amazing, the bed was super comfy, and the price was a great value for the quality I got. I'm not sure what to make of the whole experience, but I'll break it down for you.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around my stay at the Beta hotel. I'd booked a double room with a king-size bed, but things got off to a weird start. The hotel staff rang me at 10:30 am to ask if I wanted to cancel my booking. I was confused - I hadn't cancelled, and check-in wasn't until 2 pm. I told them I'd check in, but little did I know what was in store.
When I arrived at 2 pm, the chaos began. There were huge lines for the two reception windows, which were basically stationary. The staff was working slowly, and I had to pay in a separate room first and then again at the reception. I was not impressed. They finally gave me a room on the 8th floor, which I'd requested, but it was a bit of a hassle.
My room was decent, but it could've been cleaner. There was hair and dirt around the faucet in the sink, and the coffee cups were poorly washed. I had to wash them myself with soap. The hair dryer was a whole different story - it was a real torture to dry with it.
The wardrobe had some useful stuff like slippers, a sewing kit, and a shoe cleaner, but no cleaning solution. In the bathroom, there was a toilet, a sink, a shower cabin, shower gel sets, soap, shampoo, a shower cap, a toothbrush, and toothpaste. Three towels per person were provided, along with toilet seat covers.
The shower had hot water and good pressure, which was a plus. However, the first unpleasant surprise was the hair and dirt around the faucet in the sink. I'm not a picky person, but it was somehow off-putting.
I paid for the Swedish buffet breakfast and dinner at the Beta restaurant on the second floor. The selection of dishes was smaller than at the Vega hotel, but I was still able to eat my fill. The salads were mostly vegetable-based, with a limited choice of side dishes. However, the view of the city at night was a plus.
The cost of breakfast, lunch, and dinner was 1100 rubles. I'd managed to get an additional 950 rubles when I ordered in May. However, I was left out of the last dinner list, despite showing the paid receipt. The girl at the entrance to the restaurant kept calling someone, not taking the phone, and I felt like a beggar on the porch. After 10 minutes, or maybe more, without apologizing, I was finally let into the restaurant. It was a very unpleasant situation.
The only good thing was the good lighting in the room, which is now hard to find, with only table lamps and bedside lamps, but here there were spotlights.
For 4300 rubles per night, the room was decent, but it could've been cleaner, and the staff could've worked better. I'm not sure if I'd stay in this hotel again - I need to think about it.

live_helpFeatured FAQ

What's the deal with the weird check-in process at the Beta Hotel?

To be honest, it was a total disaster. They had huge lines and slow staff, and it took me forever to get checked in.

Is the hotel's location good?

Yeah, it's super convenient - it's right near the metro and easy to get to from anywhere in the city.

How's the cleanliness of the rooms?

Honestly, it was a bit lacking. The bathroom could have used a good scrub, and there were some stains on the carpet.

What's the deal with the hair dryer?

It was ancient and barely worked. I ended up having to use my own hair dryer from my bag.

Is the hotel's price worth it?

Yeah, I think so. The room was really comfy and the location was great, so it was a good value for the price.

Can I get a refund if I'm not happy with my stay?

Yeah, they have a pretty standard return policy. Just talk to the front desk and they'll help you out.

How's the hotel's customer service?

It was okay, I guess. Some of the staff were really friendly and helpful, but others seemed really clueless.

Can I get a room with a king-size bed?

Yeah, they have king-size beds available in some of the rooms. Just be sure to request it when you book.
