Hello everyone, thanks for stopping by!
Capybaras have become super popular lately, and it seems like almost every kid has something capybara-related. My kids are no exception - they're totally obsessed with these adorable creatures.
Last time I saw capybaras with my kid was at the Moscow Oceanarium, but it was a bit far and didn't really impress us.
Not long ago, an anti-cafe called BAR KAPIBAR opened up in St. Petersburg, where you can see capybaras up close, touch, and even feed them. We were planning to go last summer when we first heard about it, but the 3000 rubles per person on weekends was a bit steep for us. Then, we heard that the capybaras' living conditions weren't being met, so they tried to shut it down. But from what I understand, they addressed all the concerns, and the bar is now running smoothly.
So, we decided to take our son to the capybaras on his birthday. We bought tickets online, and the capybaras interaction lasted 30 minutes. The maximum number of people is 8, and we ended up buying all 8 tickets.
The weekday price is 2000 rubles per person (no discounts). The price includes 30 minutes of capybara interaction and unlimited access to all other animals.
30 minutes of capybara interaction
Unlimited access to all other animals
As soon as you enter, you can smell the animals, but you get used to it quickly. The automatic shoe-removal machine is a nice touch, but it would be more convenient to have rubber slippers that you can slip on and off.
We arrived when there were 8 people ahead of us and 8 of us, and we barely managed to squeeze our stuff in. There's a toilet at the entrance, which is a big plus.
I was greeted by a ton of souvenir stuff with capybaras on the reception desk. They've really thought of everything to make your visit enjoyable.
There's also a café with drinks, ice cream, and snacks. Even the table lamps are capybaras – how cute!
You can even buy food for the capybaras here – a big bowl of salad costs 350 rubles. There are also board games in the café, so you can play while you're there.
And check out the aquarium – it's like a present from Santa Claus! There are frogs and two fish swimming around, and it looks really cool and unique.
At the appointed time, they bring the capybaras into the room. We wash our hands, listen to the rules, and then we're in. There are two capybaras in total – an 8-month-old boy and a girl.
I've had the pleasure of hosting a nutria who's become quite the part of the family. These capybaras are social creatures, and the nutria has taken to their habits like a fish to water.
The capybaras have a pretty big pool to swim in. They've got a cozy little hut to snuggle up in - just be sure not to make too much noise, or they'll scurry into their hideout. And, of course, there's a little toilet area for them to do their business.
We learned so much about capybaras and enjoyed answering all the questions we got. The boy is super outgoing and loves interacting with people, while the girl is a bit more timid.
We had 4 cups of food, and it got devoured almost instantly. We spent about 30 minutes chatting and taking photos.
Next up, you can head to the nutria and rabbit room if you're interested. The staff are super informative, and you can even pet them. Just be sure to let the nutrias sniff you first.
The nutrias are super playful. One of them had a pretty unique coat.
We had a blast. This place is definitely worth a visit if you're a capybara fan. We learned a lot and had a great time.
