A Thrilling Mystery That'll Keep You Up All Night
I just couldn't put down this 2022 bestseller from American author Kat Rosenfield, which has taken the Amazon charts by storm. The story is a real brain-twister, with all the characters in their places, but the plot twist keeps you on the edge of your seat, making you devour the pages to find out what happens next.
This one's from the series where nothing's as it seems - 'when the truth is stranger than fiction.' The author masterfully weaves a complex web of deceit and mystery, keeping you guessing until the very end. The characters are well-developed and relatable, making it easy to become invested in their lives.
The story begins with the gruesome discovery of a murdered local woman, Lizzie Wellett, who grew up on a dump site owned by her father. The locals didn't take too kindly to her, and her husband's disappearance only adds to the mystery. Detective Ian Bird is sent to investigate, and as he digs deeper into Lizzie's life, you can't help but feel for her.
Lizzie turns out to be the owner of a lakeside house she rented out to tourists. One such tourist is a wealthy couple: a former financial big shot and his wife, Adrienne Richards. It's revealed that the husband was involved in a massive scandal, losing people's investments, but he got off scot-free thanks to his expensive lawyers and deep pockets. Adrienne, on the other hand, is a high-society woman who's used to getting her way.
As Lizzie and Adrienne grow closer, despite their vastly different backgrounds, you can't help but wonder what's going to happen next. The author expertly explores the themes of class, privilege, and the consequences of one's actions. I won't lie, this is a real page-turner that'll keep you up at night, eager to find out the truth.
Other mystery novels I've read recently include:
Shadows of Deceit - Alex North (2022) The Necklace - Matt Witten (2022) The Girl Who Knew Too Much - Alexander Andrews (2022) Dancing Girls - Shuinaar (2022) I Killed Her - Natalie Barrell (2022) Darkness - Emma Hooten The Dance of Tulips - Ibon Martin (2021)
Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery. It's a thrilling ride that'll keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
