The book is a big gift format, about 30cm tall. It has 136 dense, high-quality pages with amazing illustrations by Olga Fadeeva. The book is relatively thin, so it won't take up much space on your bookshelf, unless it's too tall to fit.
After reading it, I can confidently say that KotoFei won't become our favorite New Year's read like Dedmorozovka, Rождество Петсона и Финдуса, and Harry Potter. Those are some of our go-to books during the holidays.

About the book
The main characters in all KotoFei stories are a former stray cat named Whiskers and a pedigree kitten named Coconut. Let me introduce you:
Whiskers CoconutThe first story is about how Whiskers and Coconut met and became flying KotoFeis. Once a year, before New Year's, they helped stray animals in need.
The second book is about one of the KotoFeis getting into trouble. Whiskers' fears came True, and he was tricked by a sly fellow, ending up back on the streets, far from home...
And then there was the third time - the owners left their KotoFeys at a pet hotel while they were away. But the cats managed to escape and get lost on their way back to their owners. My takeaways
I have to say, the stories are written in a simple, humorous tone that's really engaging. We devoured all three stories in just a couple of evenings - we were on the edge of our seats, laughing at Hvorost's one-liners, feeling sorry for the abandoned cats and the little puppy. The illustrations are big and beautiful, taking up the whole page. They're not too bright, but they add a cozy, warm atmosphere to the stories.
The characters of the furry heroes - the practical and business-like Hvorost and the naive little KokoSik - really shine through in the stories. However, the plots are pretty straightforward, so I don't see myself re-reading them anytime soon. Maybe next year on New Year's Eve, when I'm in the mood for some feel-good, magical stories with beautiful illustrations. And KotoFeys are exactly that kind of book. The illustrations are a bit repetitive, but they're cute and do a great job of setting the tone for the stories.
Reading about the lives of stray animals on the streets, kids learn not to be indifferent or cruel, and to care for the weaker creatures. These modern, heartwarming stories about kindness, mutual support, and magic are something we can all create ourselves. Although I'm not a fan of O. Fadieva's writing, the book is definitely worth reading. Especially when compared to all the pretentious, shallow books by modern writers like Matyushkina.
This book is perfect for kids and cat lovers. If you're both, you'll love it! And if you're looking for a way to get into the holiday spirit, I'd suggest watching the animated film Petson and Findus: The Best Christmas Ever.
