A Lackluster Sequel That Falls Flat
It's been a while since the events of the fifth Halloween movie. Jamie, Michael Myers' niece, is all grown up now and has a kid of her own. But, unfortunately, she's being held in some sort of mental institution by order of a mysterious cult of druids who want to bring back the old glory and grandeur of Halloween night.
The problem is, what's behind all this old glory, and why should we even care? The filmmakers don't provide any real answers, just like they didn't in the fifth installment. That's a major problem, because it leaves the story feeling incomplete and unsatisfying.
But the real question for me is, what's Michael Myers' connection to all this druidic nonsense? Yeah, I know, if you go by some of his previous movies, he's got some sort of tie to a cult, but there's no clear explanation of what role he plays for them. Not that I'd expect one, given the franchise's history of being inconsistent.
I'm all for originality, but one thing's for sure - unnecessary nonsense is just that. It looks like this is another case of the filmmakers trying to one-up themselves and come up with a new plot twist that'll shock and awe the audience. That's a high-risk move, especially for a franchise like Halloween, which has fans who hate serious changes and new additions (the third installment being a prime example). Bad idea, guys. Either come up with something that makes sense or stick to what works.
The thing is, the Halloween franchise has always been about one thing: Michael Myers, the masked killer. So, why did they feel the need to explain why he kills people? John Carpenter, the creator of the franchise, made Michael a sociopath-psychopath who just loves killing. Show us how he appears out of nowhere, how he stalks his victims, and how Dr. Loomis tries to track him down and always fails.
There are some decent moments in the sixth installment, and there are sequels worse than this one. But that doesn't mean this movie deserves applause and praise. It's a lazy, uninspired sequel that fails to deliver on its promises. If you're a fan of the franchise, you'll likely be disappointed by the lack of effort put into this film.
I'd recommend skipping this one and waiting for a better installment. The Halloween franchise has a rich history, and it's a shame that this movie doesn't live up to its potential. Maybe the next one will be better, but until then, I'll be sticking to the classics.
One of the biggest problems with this movie is its lack of coherence. The plot is all over the place, and it's hard to follow at times. The characters are underdeveloped, and the dialogue is often cheesy and unnatural. It's like the filmmakers took a bunch of random ideas and threw them together without thinking about how they would work as a cohesive whole.
Another issue with this movie is its reliance on jump scares. While I'm not opposed to a good jump scare every now and then, this movie relies on them too heavily. It's like the filmmakers are trying to compensate for the lack of a good plot by relying on cheap thrills. It's not effective, and it gets old quickly.
Overall, I'd say that this movie is a disappointment. It fails to deliver on its promises, and it's a lazy, uninspired sequel. If you're a fan of the franchise, you'll likely be disappointed by the lack of effort put into this film. I'd recommend skipping it and waiting for a better installment.
