summarizeEditor's Summary

I'm still trying to figure out why this movie was on TV - it's a wild ride, but not in a good way. The cast is impressive, with some big-name Russian actors, but they didn't quite do it for me. The visuals are stunning, with bright colors and catchy songs that had me tapping my foot. Unfortunately, the storytelling falls flat, and the humor is often cheap and cringeworthy. I'm not sure what the filmmakers were going for, but it didn't quite work.

I ended up watching this movie when I was visiting my parents, and I'm still trying to figure out why it was on TV.
About the movie: Genres - comedy, musical; Director - Zhor Krizhovnikov; Producers - Timur Bekmambetov, Zhor Krizhovnikov, Alexey Kazakov, Sergei Korinikhin; Screenplay authors - Zhor Krizhovnikov, Alexey Kazakov; Main cast - Dmitry Nagiev, Yulia Alexandrova, Olga Seriabkina, Sergei Lavygin, Inna Churikova; Cinematographers - Maxim Shinkorenko, Ivan Lebedev; Choreographer - Oleg Glushkov; Runtime - 112 minutes.
It's got some big-name Russian actors, but I'm not a fan of most of them, and that includes the cast here.
Nagiev is basically a total drunkard in this movie, and he's spineless if you look closely. I mean, where's the masculinity in that?
The main heroine seems sweet at first, but by the end, I was just disappointed for her and her decision. Honestly, I wasn't impressed with Yulia Alexandrova's acting in this movie, and I wouldn't go out of my way to see any of her future projects.
I'm also not a fan of Olga Seriabkina, and this movie just proved why. She's like a wild card, unpredictable, but you can't help but feel sorry for her. The video montage of her singing is actually pretty nice, though.
Malahev makes a brief appearance, doing his usual hosting thing.
Then there's Inn Churikova, who I thought was Yana Churikova's mom from The Factory of Stars - but nope, she's actually a different person. As a mom, you always want the best for your kid, but wealth and fame don't always deliver. It's weird to see how Julia found and took in this kid, especially given his mom's... let's say, complicated past. Churikova passed away earlier this year.
Sergey Lavygin is just as one-dimensional here as he was in Kitchen. He's a bit of a Valenok, to be honest - not exactly the most compelling guy to watch.
Valentina Mazunina, who we last saw in Real Young Guys, does a decent job as a character. I'm not saying I love her, but there's something about her that's kind of endearing. She's often paired with Julia Sulim, which is probably just a coincidence.
I've gotta say, the standout for me in this cast is Mikhail Boyarsky. He's a real character, and I'm rooting for him after what happened a few days ago. He's got a lot of heart, whether it's in his old films or in this one - although, let's be real, he does like to have a drink or two.
Jan Tsapnik's a popular guy, but he's not really my cup of tea as an actor.
Elena Yakovleva also brought some energy to the film. To be honest, I'm a bit confused about her - I couldn't find any info on her passing, but it keeps coming up in search results with a weird date and cause. Something's not adding up, and it's all a bit of a mystery.
I didn't really notice Vladislava Vetkova in the film, and to be honest, she's not even the focus of this review - she just happened to be part of the cast.
Natalya Vladimirovna Kostenyova was a bit of a non-entity for me in this film - she was only in it for a brief moment, and I actually remember her more from the TV show 'Zaytsev +1'. I also didn't really take to Ekaterina Vilkova, despite her striking looks. To be honest, I didn't recognize any of the other actors in the cast.
There's some humor in here, but it's pretty thin on the ground - I wouldn't exactly call this a comedy, to be honest.
I've got to say, the music in this is actually really great. It's almost like a karaoke movie, even if some of the songs are tweaked.
The video sequence in the movie is really cool in some parts. I'd love to create a few clips with similar scenery.
But honestly, the ending was a major letdown. I mean, how can you react like that in the end?
The absurdity of the ending is even confirmed by the song with the dance.
Although, you do get a sense of what's going on with the other characters' actions. Because when they're bad, they drink and sing, and when they're good, they do the same.
And of course, there's a lot of drinking in this movie. But that's just the Russian film thing, and the specific setup of this one.
Overall, after watching it, I'm left with a bit of a bad taste. That's why I wouldn't recommend it.
