Anna Lyulina's Modern Twist on The Nutcracker

I'm a huge fan of The Nutcracker, and Anna Lyulina's take on this classic is seriously impressive. This interactive story is a game-changer for book lovers of all ages - it's engaging, memorable, and impossible to put down. With its captivating narrative and lovable characters, you'll be hooked from start to finish. Whether you're a seasoned reader or just looking for a new adventure, this modern retelling is a must-read.

A Disappointing Experience with a Well-Intentioned Gift

summarizeEditor's Summary

I was really looking forward to diving into this interactive book, especially since it was a gift. Unfortunately, the execution just didn't live up to my expectations. The idea of an interactive Nutcracker story is genius, but it felt rushed and lacking in polish. The price point of 1,337 rubles was steep, but I was willing to give it a try. The book itself is a thick, heavy A4 format with spiral-bound pages, which is nice for durability. However, the build quality just didn't impress me. The interactive elements are cool, but they feel cheap and flimsy. The illustrations are nice, but the story itself is just a rehashing of the classic tale. I was hoping for something more unique and engaging. The book arrived quickly, which is always a plus, and the packaging was nice, but that's about where the positives end.

Hello there!
I came across this book in a recommendation from Very Best, and I was intrigued by the idea. The price point was a bit steep at 1,337 rubles, but the concept and description had me putting it in my favorites and eventually ordering it before New Year's, as The Nutcracker is a holiday classic.
The book arrived on day 3, and it came in a box with everything intact.
The book is an A4 format, and it's quite thick and heavy, with spiral-bound pages.
The interactive elements are pretty cool, as you can engage with the illustrations on each page. I'll show you some examples and explain what you can do.
On the first page, you can turn the night sky around the girl.
Next, you can move the slider up or down, and it looks like the hero is giving a present to the boy. Unfortunately, our slider fell off on the second try.
Here, you can move the slider up or down, and it looks like the Nutcracker opens his eyes and closes his mouth, or closes his eyes and shows a hazelnut in his mouth.
Next, you can open the dresser drawer and see the toys inside.
Here, the sword should move up and down using the slider, but it just fell off, and I couldn't put it back. My kid was excited to participate in the battle between the Nutcracker and the Mouse King, but unfortunately, the slider just fell off. It felt like it was loosely attached and hanging by a thread. It fell off again during our second reading.
On this page, you can simply open the room door.
Here, the slider moves up, and the Mouse appears.
Next, you can use the slider to make the Court Jester swing the Princess's cradle.
Here, you can open the window and see a slight change in the illustration.
The Nutcracker and Marie go on a journey, and the locations change.
On this page, you can open a panorama.
The cover on the back.
The Story: it's a modern take on the original, but I wasn't a fan of the new adaptation. We only read it with my kid once.
I left a video review on the seller's page, highlighting the book's drawbacks, but soon all reviews disappeared. I contacted the seller, asking why they removed my review, and they kindly put it back up. If you're interested, the video shows the book's interactive elements and its flaws in more detail.
TL;DR: I'm disappointed with the quality of this product, despite its interesting concept. My five-year-old enjoys flipping through the pages and moving the sliders, but they're not interested in listening to the story anymore. I'm giving it two stars and a strong anti-recommendation.
Thanks for reading, and I hope my review was helpful!
