I'm a total sucker for thick Sudoku collections, so when I spotted a deal on Ozon for '500 Sudoku' by Darya, I just had to grab it.
This is the 5th edition for 2025, and honestly, I don't really care what year it is - numbers are numbers, right?
The collection is a bit smaller than A5 size, which is a bummer if you're used to bigger books.
The collection itself is thick, with 500 puzzles plus 10 pages of answers. That's a lot of brain teasers to keep you busy!
Using the collection can be a bit of a pain, though. It's just too thick, keeps closing, and I have to hold it with both hands while trying to solve the puzzles with my brain. The puzzles come in different levels, but I was disappointed to find that there are way too many easy ones. I'd love to tackle a good challenge, but this is just too straightforward.
I think they should've included around 10 puzzles for beginners and left it at that. The rest are either too easy or too hard. It's like they're trying to cater to everyone, but end up pleasing nobody.
The authors probably wanted to drill the easy puzzles into our heads, but it just got boring. Who wants to do the same thing over and over again? On the other hand, the medium-level puzzles are actually quite fun to solve. They're just the right amount of challenging.
Aside from Sudoku, the collection also includes other brain teasers like anti-crosswords and number grids. Unfortunately, there aren't enough of them to keep things interesting.
In the end, the collection includes some challenging Sudoku puzzles. They're just the right amount of difficult to keep me engaged.
The downsides of this collection are that there are too few different types of Sudoku puzzles. It's mostly just classic Sudoku, which gets repetitive after a while. I'd love to see a mix of puzzle types to keep things fresh.
The answers are at the end of the collection, but they're too small to read without glasses. Who wants to squint at tiny print?
