My Faithful Little Ride

I recently scored this sweet 2008 Honda Fit, and I'm totally hooked. The bright red paint job and sleek design caught my eye right off the bat. I went for the top-of-the-line model with an automatic transmission, and I couldn't be happier. Choosing the right car was a bit of a process for me. Since I don't need to haul around massive bags of potatoes from the farm, I knew I wanted a car that was perfect for ferrying my little one around in their car seat. I narrowed it down to a few options, including the Matiz, Picanto, Spark, and Peugeot Citroen, but it was the Fit's adorable headlights that won me over. My boyfriend said it best: "You can tell this is a girl's car!" The Fit's smooth curves and stylish "boot" make it a real head-turner. Plus, it's incredibly easy to park, which is a major plus in my book. The high seating position gives me a great view of the road, and the headlights make it easy to gauge the car's size. The automatic transmission is super reliable and starts up like a charm, even in freezing cold weather. Okay, so there was one time when it took a second try to start it up in -27 degree weather, but that's a minor quibble. I've had this car for a year now, and I've only been pulled over by the cops a handful of times. Maybe it's because I'm a blonde driving a cute little red car, but I like to think it's because I'm a careful driver! With the 1.4L engine, I get decent gas mileage, especially during the summer months when I'm running the AC. It's not the most fuel-efficient car on the market, but it's definitely better than some of the bigger models out there. I average around 9-10.5 liters per 100 kilometers. One of the things that really surprised me about this car is how spacious the interior is. I can easily fit four adults and my two-year-old in the car seat. It's a total game-changer for road trips and errands. I do have a few minor complaints, though. The stock audio system doesn't support MP3s, which is a bummer. I just stick to CDs or listen to the radio instead. I also swapped out the original tires for some higher-profile ones, which made a big difference in terms of comfort and handling. In the winter, the windshield and side windows can get pretty foggy, so I've been using an anti-fog treatment to help clear them up. And while the low clearance is a bit of a concern for me, especially when driving on rough roads, it's not a deal-breaker.
